What?!?! My phone is made of glass? The iPhone 4…

So you checked out our prices and you saw that the iPhone 4 was a lot more expensive. Here I will explain the reasons for that.

  1. Starts with parts. They are more expensive. Apple basically flipped the phone design over and factory sealed the glass, LCD and digitizer into one component. This part is much more expensive than a 3G or 3GS as we are able to quickly remove the glass and digitizer and just replace those parts.
  2. Labor, those things are trouble. iPhone 4 was built with all the access from the back, which is different than the iPhone 3G and 3GS in that they are accessed from the front. In order to repair the iPhone 4 we have to remove the back and insides from the front, instead of removing the front from the back. To give you an idea, that’s about 52 screws and numerous components.
  3. Time. While it doesn’t take an experienced iPhone repair person a huge amount of time to repair. It does take longer than an iPhone 3G or 3GS. We have to compensate the labor but we try to do this as fast as possible and pass the savings on to you.

In the long run, Apple charges $200 for these repairs and we charge $165 (during the month of December). So we are saving you a bit of money. We will talk about the back glass soon…
Our biggest recommendation is that you always use a case and screen cover, we will be reviewing these in a future post.
